TORQ/Merida team OCEANIA'S QLD 2015

(24th February 2015) The TORQ/MERIDA team travelled to Toowoomba, QLD for the 2015 Oceania Mountain Bike Championships. This is one the biggest races that our riders focus on, due to the quantity of UCI points on offer and the opportunity to be crowned the Oceania champion! (Fastest mountain biker in the Oceania region)
The conditions in Toowoomba were, very high humidity plus high temperatures.  The Torq energy products helped deliver critical electrolytes and fueled our athletes with carbohydrates in order to stay energised and back up day after day.

First up to race on Thursday was the elite and under 23 females. In this race we had Jenni King racing in the elites and Holly Harris and Emily Parkes competing in the under 23 category. Both fields contained strong competition.  The ladies had prepared well in the lead up providing the final touches in the warm up however, an unfortunate half hour delay occurred which was not exactly ideal! The ladies all had very strong races and they should be very proud of their achievements. Impressively, Jenni came through for a strong 4th position in the elites and Em and Holly secured a 2nd and 4th respectively. Also a congratulations to Torq fuelled athlete Peta Mullens on a 5th place in elite women!

Chris Hamilton and Tasman Nankervis raced in the under 23’s and Liam Jeffries in under 19’s mens category.  Chris went on to finish on the 3rd step of the podium! Tas has had a major battle with injury and sickness and had a well fought battle to finish in 13th. Our super star Liam, continued his top step performances to take the win by over a minute from second place! Congratulations boys, you should be very proud!

And last but certainly not least for the day, were our under 17 men! In this category we had Josh Battye and Ben Metcalfe racing. Both boys fought it out all the way in what was then the hottest part of the day. Josh’s results have been improving all year and he finished less than 20 seconds off a podium position in 5th place! Ben also had a terrific race 30 second behind Josh to finish up in 6th.

A huge congratulations to the whole team, everyone composed themselves incredibly well and acted like the true professional athletes that they are. We are now looking forward to catching up again at the National Championships in Bright, Victoria next week!

Big thanks to our amazing sponsors because Without them, it would honestly not be possible!
