St George MERIDA NRS Team Success in Bathurst over the weekend
St George MERIDA NRS Team Success in Bathurst over the weekendFantastic weekend of racing done and dusted in what was a highly successful return to racing for the team in Bathurst!
Today's 110km Blayney to Bathurst got underway in a super aggressive manner, with the boys eager to get the numbers in any breakaway that went. Harry Wiles then formed a solid move 25km in, along with 6 other riders, before Jordan Davies jumped across to once again find himself in the all too familiar position of the day's major break! With riders from Budget and AMR Renault both represented, the most notable team to have missed the break was NSWIS - who quickly formed on the front of the peloton in an attempt to keep the break at striking distance.
Harry and Jordan put in a super effort in the break, surviving another 70km until the bottom of the major KOM of the day - after an average race speed of almost 45kph!From here, Pat Sharpe and Jay Dutton pushed the pace on the early slopes, with the bunch seriously splitting behind them. After an attack from Josh Berry, Jay then countered to move away solo on the second half of the climb, before eventually only being joined by Josh Berry and another in the final 50m of the climb. The following descent saw the trio caught by about 8 others including Ben Harvey, before another group of 10 joined them 5km later.
This select group of 20 had all 6 of our riders who weren't in the break - forcing us on the attack through Jay, Pat, Tam and Declan! With nothing sticking, Luke Cridland and Ben took over for the sprint. Ben put in a great sprint, coming up only just short in 2nd, behind a fast finishing Troy Herfoss!Although we didn't get the win, it was fantastic to see the boys riding so well together, with every rider playing a crucial part in the race! Great signs for so early in the season, really excited for what's next!
