Triathletes are athletes with highly specific demands: They want to deliver individual top performances in no less than three disciplines. To enable this, the question as to the appropriate equipment must – without exception – be answered with “always as best as possible”. Thus our R&D experts were simply not content with sending triathletes into their races on the WARP TT, the high-tech racer primarily and specifically designed (incl. wind-tunnel optimization) for the time-trial missions of our UCI WorldTour TEAM LAMPRE-MERIDA. Instead, MERIDA engineers have used all technological findings from the development of the WARP TT to create a true Triathlon bike optimized for medium and long distances. A bike as ambitious as its rider. Voilá: MERIDA presents the new WARP TRI for 2015.

The development rules of the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale; International Cycling Union) are the reason for the decision to design an independent solution for triathletes. These strict standards apply to the time-trial machine WARP TT constructed for the WorldTour TEAM LAMPRE-MERIDA. But they are not valid for most Triathlon contests. This e.g. results in the possibility to create a frame with even stronger orientation towards aerodynamics. Also as to geometry, the engineers have different options: A TT bike compliant to the UCI standards e.g. can hardly be realized without modifications affecting handling negatively when the seat-tube angle is to be larger than 74° or 75°. But triathletes need 78° to 80° for maximal efficiency on medium and long distances. Thus, the tria-optimized geometry of the WARP TRI is especially a benefit for amateur cyclists who – in contrast to pro riders – lose considerably more power as soon as their bike forces them into a disadvantageous position.

The knowledge gathered by our R&D experts during the work on the WARP TT is the basis for another further development. The aero-dynamically optimized outline of our new WARP TRI is characterized by “NACA Fastback” tube profiles whose typical drop shape is cropped in the rear. Also the directly mounted brakes (at the front and directly behind the BB section) ensure outstanding aerodynamic performance. The same applies to the seat post merging seamlessly with the seat tube due to the complete integration of the clamping.

The tapered and extremely slim head tube reduces the influence of incoming airflow as well. Simultaneously, it brings along (together with other components) one more advantage: increased suitability for everyday use. Because besides a standard stem, standard vertical dropouts allow the easy and ultra-fast mounting /demounting of the wheels.

Our new WARP TRI is available as a frame kit* or as a completely pre-mounted bike. In its premiere season, it convinces with a carbon frame with our “Nano Matrix” technology. For mechanical shifting concepts as well as for the electronic Shimano Di2 system, the frame trusts in the internal routing of all cables/wires. Its front section features integrated stoppers at the contact point between fork and down/head tube – a reliable protection in case of unwanted excessive handlebar turns (e. g. during transport or caused by a fall). Equally outstanding is the concept’s potential for individualization: Via special aero spacers, the cockpit position is adaptable in an equally versatile and individual way to the demands of a WARP TRI-athlete. Simultaneously, the seat post’s “Flip Flop Head” enables many different angles and thus (together with the large adjusting range of the saddle) many different sitting positions. As a result, our new WARP TRI newly designed for 2015 reveals its task right from the start: maximum support of maximum ambitions.


With the new WARP TRI, MERIDA presents a special Triathlon bike whose many technological finesses impress already on the entry level. Its top-notch aerodynamic data are as convincing as its countless options for individualization.
